An earthquake overtook The Indian Ocean and killed 250,000 people in one afternoon.
On January 16, 1920 prohibition was about to hit. Millions of Americans lined up to buy their last legal drinks. The 18th Amendment outlawed “the manufacture, sale or transportation of intoxicating liquors” and took reign for the following 12 years till it was repealed. Organized crime prevailed at this time. Over 216 nuclear tests were done around the world in the 1940's in different environments like the atmosphere, underwater, and space.
One of the most well known tests was at Bikini Atoll. From 1946-1958, 23 nuclear bombs were detonated at seven sites on the atoll. The one seen above was detonated in just 90 feet of water and caused massive damage and contamination to the atoll.
