B’Elanna Torres – Roxann Dawson
Over the years, Star Trek has become a household name. Many fans of the original series like to be called Trekkers and they know every intricacy possible.
It has racked up quite a following across the globe. A new film adaptation is in the works so we thought it would be fitting to look back at the original cast of the show to see what they have been up to in recent days.
Starting off our list is half-Human/half-Klingon engineer B’Elanna Torres. This actress is from all seven seasons of Star Trek: Voyager. A fascinating fact about Roxann Dawson is that while she was acting on the show, she debuted as a director.
Captain James T. Kirk – William Shatner
After this role, she went on to star in various television series however, she turned into a talented director. The directed episodes on shows including Charmed, The O.C., Lost, Cold Case, The Mentalist, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Most recently she took her talents and helped produce shows like Scandal, Crossing Jordan and Cold Case.
William Shatner is an actor that doesn't really need an introduction. We are all familiar with his resume of acting jobs. Throughout his years of television, William Shatner turned himself into a cultural icon. His role on Star Trek portraying James T.
Dr. Beverly Crusher – Gates McFadden
Kirk, Captain of the USS Enterprise gave him his name in television. Aside from his fame that came from the Star Trek series, he is an author, producer, and director. Later in life, his work on shows like The Practice and Boston Legal brought him great success.
Actress Gates McFadden is perhaps best known in the industry for portraying Dr. Beverly Crusher in the Star Trek television series and the four subsequent films that were made. After her role on the show came to an end, she went on to star in a few films and television shows.
Ensign Ro Laren – Michelle Forbes
Using her knowledge of the film industry she went on to teach classes at a few different notable universities. She taught classes at American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Harvard, Purdue, the Stella Academy in Hamburg, and the University of Pittsburgh. Her students were sure lucky to be taught by someone with her experience!
During the final three seasons of Star Trek, fans were graced with the presence of Ensign Ro Laren. Many people would argue that her character is the second strongest female character in the Star Trek franchise. Thats pretty impressive!
Ensign Clancy – Anne Ramsay
Since the series, she has starred in many film and television roles. Ensign has played roles in television shows such as 24, The Killing, True Blood, and her most recent film was The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
Anne Ramsay portrayed Ensign Clancy in three episodes of the famous television series. The episodes she was in were “Elementary, Dear Data” and “The Emissary”.
Captain Jean Luc Picard – Patrick Stewart
Ramsay has starred in many television series roles and a few film roles. She is best known for her role as Lisa Stemple on Mad About You, where she shared a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Ensemble in a Comedy series.
This wonderful English actor has had a varied career. He has been on the stage, television, and starred in film for almost six decades!
Commander Chakotay – Robert Beltran
He is a multiple time Olivier, Golden Globe, Emmy, Screen Actors Guild and Saturn Award nominee. He began his career working for The Royal Shakespeare Company.He is best known for his role on Star Trek along with its successor films, as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men series, the lead of the Starz TV series Blunt Talk, and voice roles including CIA Deputy Director Avery Bullock in American Dad.
Robert Beltran is often referred to as Commander Chakotay, the first officer of the starship Voyager! It was a role he really became the character he was playing. It was a role for which he received two ALMA Award nominations and won the Golden Eagle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Television Series.
Captain Jonathan Archer – Scott Bakula
Since his roles on Star Trek, he has gone on to star in a few film and television roles, along with theater. Most recently Beltran produced and starred in a Los Angeles production of "The Big Knife" by Clifford Odets, a play which explores the Hollywood environment under the big studio system of the 1940's. He also taken the recurring supporting role of Jerry Flute in Seasons 3 and 4 of HBO's Big Love.
Scott Bakula is best known for his lead roles in two science fiction television shows. They are as Sam Beckett on Quantum Leap for which he received four Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award and as Captain Jonathan Archer on Star Trek: Enterprise. Since these roles he has starred in many shows and films including the comedy-drama series Men of a Certain Age, and guest-starred in seasons two and three of NBC's Chuck as the title character's father Stephen J.
Emergency Medical Hologram – Robert Picardo
Bartowski. Most recently Bakula could be seen on NCIS: New Orleans.
Befor acting, Picardo had originally started at Yale as a pre-med student, but chose to go into acting instead. He ended up graduating with a bachelor’s degree in drama from Yale. Impressive!
Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge – LeVar Burton
In the Star Trek series and films, Picardo portrayed Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH), commonly referred to as The Doctor. Since this role he has starred on Broadway, television and film. He played roles such as the Cowboy in Innerspace, Coach Cutlip on The Wonder Years (received an Emmy nomination), Ben Wheeler in Wagons East and as Richard Woolsey in the Stargate television franchise.
Burton is the one and only star from the Reading Rainbow children’s show. He was the host and executive producer of the show. His other notable role was in the Star Trek franchise. In the Star Trek series, La Forge is blind but has “sight” through a prosthetic device called a VISOR which he wears over his eyes.
Guinan – Whoopi Goldberg
Since the show, he has starred in other television shows as well as being a director. Most recently has appeared as a fictionalized, humorous version of himself on show The Big Bang Theory, as well as having a recurring role as dean Paul Haley on the TNT series Perception. Burton now also serves on the board of directors for the AIDS Research Alliance.
Everyone knows Whoopi Goldberg! Whoopi portrayed Guinan, an El-Aurian which is a race of “listeners” who were scattered by the Borg. Since the show, she’s gone on to win numerous awards. She won an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Oscar, and a Tony Award.
Jadzia Dax – Terry Farrell
She went down in history as the second black woman in the Academy Awards to win an acting Oscar. Most recently in her career she had a recurring role in the TV series Glee, guest starred as Jane Marsh in The Middle and voiced the Magic Mirror on Disney XD's The 7D. In 2016, it was announced Whoopi Goldberg was going to be developing a reality show called Strut.
Nobody could forget Jadzia Dax! Terry Farrell played the role as the space station’s Starfleet science officer. At the end of the sixth season, Farrell left the show and Paramount killed off Farrell’s “host” character. Farrell then co-starred on Paramount's television comedy series Becker.
Captain Hikaru Sulu – George Takei
She played Regina "Reggie" Kostas for four years and 94 episodes, before she was replaced. Farrell also provided the voice of Six of One in the animated short film Tripping the Rift. Farrell is currently retired from acting and is focusing on family.
In the mid 60s, producer Gene Roddenberry cast George Takei as Lt. Sulu in the second Star Trek pilot. He eventually was cast into the Star Trek television series. Sulu’s role was supposed to be expanded in the second season of the series, but Takei’s role as Captain Nim in The Green Berets made this difficult. After his role on Star Trek, he starred in many film and TV series.
Hoshi Sato – Linda Park
Most recently he participated in Do I Sound Gay?, a documentary film by David Thorpe about stereotypes of gay men's speech patterns. In early 2017 Takei was featured in television commercials promoting Pizza Hut. He has a large social media following and is a proponent of LGBT rights. As of February 2017, his Facebook page has over 10 million likes. He has won many awards and accolades in his work in human rights and Japan–United States relations including his work with the Japanese American National Museum.
Having just graduated from Boston University, Linda Park landed a role as Hoshi Sato in the fifth incarnation of the Star Trek franchise. In her role, she portrayed the ship’s communications officer who translated alien languages.
After the show she went on to have a small role in the feature film Jurassic Park III, played Clytemnestra in a New York City production of Agamemnon and in 2008 she was a series regular on the show Crash. She is currently the co-founder of a theater company, Underground Asylum.
