Instead of asking for something for himself, like meeting his favorite celebrity, Edward Liu asked for something that will help others.
Soon after Edward Liu, 11 years old, was diagnosed with a rare and inoperable brain tumor, he drew a poster in class. Edward's father, Xiang Liu, said, “Each kid in his class was asked ‘If you had one wish, what would you wish for?’ Edward wrote, ‘I wish my family would live forever,’ and drew a picture of the four of us.” “Edward was the sick one, but all he wanted was for us to not die,” said Liu. “That’s exactly the type of kid he is.” His family was not surprised then that when Make-A-Wish came to him with what he wanted for his wish, he did not go the usual route of a vacation or meeting a favorite star, but rather a brand new indoor playground for his school.
He asked and he got it. Davon Corporation designed a 15 x 8 foot geodome for the school, that comes fully equipped with a virtual reality gaming system that is entirely wheelchair accessible. “Edward is so happy with how it turned out,” Liu said. “It was more than we could ever imagine.” The CEO of the Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, Charlotte Beattie, called Edward nothing short of "remarkable", and continued by saying, “At a time when Edward and his family are facing a range of medical challenges, they thought not of themselves, but of what could be done to make his school a better place for all children."
