Skies above, seas below. Life seems too good to be true for “Captain” Morton Jablin—well, at least that's how it appears to onlookers. The 94-year-old spent most of his life on a cruise ship. Even now that he’s so old, he still loves to be on deck and feel the cool breeze on his skin.
But this gentleman isn't just going on holiday; he has onboarded the cruise ship for good! It might seem like a captain's dream, but Jablin wakes up to the ocean each day for a different reason, and when you hear what it is, you'll be heartbroken.
Odd Lifestyle
As they get older, many rely on their kids and grandkids to take care of them. It's not often that you hear about a 94-year-old living or doing something out of the ordinary, particularly when it comes to their living arrangements. But Jablin has no other choice!

While working for the Navy overseas, he met a German manufacturer with whom he struck up a close relationship. When they were together, they spoke about bringing lace-making machines into the United States, and when he returned home, the thought continued circling in his head.

Starting the Company
Jablin wanted to find employment after a few years in the Navy. He began his career as a pharmacist, earning only $60 a week. This may seem insignificant, but keep in mind that a dollar was worth a lot back then. In reality, it was far more than the minimum wage.
He wanted and to do something about the lace idea because it was still on his mind. Jablin ultimately launched his business, although it was far from an easy sail.
Fighting the Storm
The firm was eventually run effectively by Jablin, his wife Charlotte, and their children. Along the way, there were several major challenges, the most important of which was introducing affordable work into the mix. This helped China become the world's largest lace maker, displacing businesses from around the United States and Europe.

They discovered Radisson Seven Seas Cruises, now known as Regent Seven Seas Cruises, thanks to some acquaintances. Jablin is presently onboard the Navigator, one of several ships in their fleet.
This was the ship he and his wife selected every time they went on a trip. But where is the lovely lady and why is Jablin living all alone?
Drastic Change
The Navigator's appeal stems from the fact that it is the smallest ship in the Seven Seas fleet. The Jablins were delighted to be included in the manifest since it meant closer contact with both the staff and the other passengers.
Everything was as wonderful as it could be for the couple as they embarked on extended excursions across the world before returning to Florida. However, in 2005, everything changed.
Heartbroken Man
Charlotte passed away in 2005, putting her family in a state of full and utter devastation. Having said that, the tragedy was at least tempered by the knowledge that she had lived a meaningful life filled with love before her passing.
Jablin, understandably, was heartbroken by her death. He was on the verge of losing his sense of purpose in life.
Packed Bags
After she passed away, Jablin gathered his belongings and returned to the Navigator for good. That's his way of reuniting with her at the spot where they had spent some of their most precious moments. Since making such a decision, this man has woken up every morning with the confidence that he made the correct choice.
He had the impression that they were only together on every trip. Reminiscing the time with his wife, he felt at peace and comforted.
Home on the Shore
Jablin still owns a house on land, despite having spent so much time at sea. The man has a condo in Boca Raton, Florida, which is an unusual location for him.
This building is still in use today because he just had far too much "stuff" to carry with him and needed a safe, secure place to put it all. Furthermore, it means that Jablin is eligible for various benefits, including social security and welfare insurance.
Favorite Lounge
The ship's main lounge is one of the areas where Jablin devotes a significant amount of his time. 'The captain' always sits in the very same corner seat.
This is done to guarantee that he has a clear view of the little stage where a guitarist or pianist will be performing songs from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. His favorite part about living aboard the ship, though, is, without a doubt, something more than that.
