The Look for Less: Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery
Recreate Lady Mary’s real-life signature looks
Ever since Michelle Dockery popped up on our radar a few years ago, first as Lady Mary on Downton Abbey and then as herself on numerous red carpets, we’ve been following — and eagerly coveting — her style. She blends classic English glamor with a subtle touch of drama; a bold red lip with a modern LBD, for example, or rosy pink blush that gives a pretty glow to an edgy, structured look.
To recreate Michelle’s style without breaking the bank, we pulled three of our favorite looks from her amazingly talented stylist, Micaela Erlanger, and found affordable, fashionable variations of her signature pieces.
The gorgeous purple Elie Saab gown she wore to the 2013 White House Correspondents Dinner is perfect against her flawless pale skin. With this sexy purple minidress as a base, you can repurpose the look for a hot date or special evening event.
Belt: Solid Color Pants

LEATHER AND STRIPES
Michelle’s classic screen-siren makeup compliments this edgier look. To pull it off, you’ll need the right shade of red lipstick, a sexy moto jacket, and an I-own-this-place strut.
PAGING JACKIE O.
The unique and adorable Caroline Herrera “radish” dress is hard to beat, but Anthropologie’s timeless sheath comes pretty damn close. Pair it with a pair of oversized black glasses, chic hair, and makeup that’s young and flirty, not overdone.
